Laura Mucha
On Thursday 15th January, we had our second visit from poet Laura Mucha. Laura is an ex-lawyer turned award-winning poet and Author-in-Residence in the Department of Public Health & Primary Care, University of Cambridge.
Laura’s visits are a valuable part of our mission to raise the profile of reading for pleasure in our school and engaging our young people in the joy of the creative process. Her sensitivity and experience of writing about mental health have meant that she is the perfect fit for our setting.
Since agreeing to be our Patron of Reading in the Autumn Term, Laura has led some fantastic staff CPD where she demonstrated her engaging style of creative writing; we wrote a collaborative poem as a staff group. She spent time at Addenbrookes and The Darwin Learning Centre working on poetry writing with a number of students.

Fitzwilliam Museum
On 22nd January, young people from the Darwin went to the Fitzwilliam Museum. An education officer facilitated a tour of the galleries and we were set some creative oracy and sketching tasks. We were then shown how to create a monoprint using acrylic boards, printing inks and rollers. The young people produced some fabulous prints based on their favourite pieces of art or ideas that were inspired by them. Our young people said that 'The mono printing was good' and 'the tour guide was great'.
